Dating back to the 13th century, Plaza San Francisco is one of Seville's most emblematic squares and a witness to the city's history. The square was the administrative and commercial heart of the city in the Middle Ages, the setting for processions and public celebrations from the 15th century onwards, and the political and representative center after the construction of the Town Hall in the 16th century (now the Seville City Hall). Today it preserves a mixture of Gothic, Renaissance and modern architecture, and remains a nerve center of Seville.
